On a sweltering summer day Troy Seligman witnessed a murder out on the still waters of Carlisle Lake. But what did he actually see?
A woman struck Dr. Gregory Neal in the back of the head with a boat hook, knocking him over the side of his yacht. Troy saw her clearly, and there is no doubt in his mind that the murderer was Dr. Neal’s socialite wife, Linda.
There are three problems with this. The first is that Linda is recovering from shoulder surgery and couldn’t possibly have swung the murder weapon. The second is that she was thirty miles away, in front of dozens of witnesses, at the time the murder occurred.
The third is that Troy saw the murder while he was projecting—and anything he sees in spirit form is clearly inadmissible in court.
He’s sure about what he saw, sure enough that his fellow agents at Snowe Agency decide to look into Dr. Neal’s life and mysterious death. It becomes quickly obvious that the doctor was not the pillar of society almost everyone thought he was. His wife certainly has a motive, that’s clear enough.
The problem is, so does just about everyone else in his life—including his secretary, business partner, and all three of his dental hygienists.
